So long as the TV has bluetooth or you can get a BT transmitter to plug into the TV's headset jack, then these Sony XB950N1 headphones should work quite well. It also depends on his hearing ability, as these are not designed to be hearing aids, just headphones. These have a stated range of 10 meters, or 33 feet. I use them at work and the music never drops out.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use mine with my Samsung 4K Smart TV. It works out great and has even better and than my Samsung SoundBar. Better yet, I can immerse myself in all of the action of my favorite thriller movies on the middle of the night without disturbing the rest of the household.

Alternatively, you may get the MDRRF985RK wireless headphones which are designed for such use. You may check this link for more information on the MDRRF985RK: https://docs.sony.com/release//specs/MDRRF985RK_mksp.pdf Thanks, -Mark
