The speaker is capable of running on power either from an AC outlet connected by the supplied AC power cord (mains lead) or from the rechargeable built-in lithium-ion battery. The speaker's built-in battery is designed to be safely charged while it is plugged in. If you are using the speaker in a location where you do not want to worry about running out of battery power, you can simply leave it plugged in all the time.
