On the Best Buy website the digital version is laid out with a title like so Splatoon 2 Digital - Nintendo Switch [Digital Download] Also after you scroll past the image you will see bold letters that say digital download Instructions

Or bought a code from a retailer like Best Buy. There’s no way to tell just from the main operating system menu on the Switch.
