Yes you can. We use this for craft fairs and shows and it will take input from either reader. The chip reader is connected by bluetooth so they can both be connected at the same time.

If you purchase the upgraded square reader, you don't need a separate mag stripe reader at all because it has all 3 functions (swipe, tap and chip). This reader does not get plugged in at all - it uses Bluetooth.
