It's a mag strip reader connected to headphone jack of your phone. The square is a separate device that can work with BT.

The included is a headphone or auxiliary port connection. Square offers a separate lightning connected magstripe reader to purchase or you could use the Apple supplied lightning to headphone adapter.

I came with the headphone jack connected magstripe, but you're able to order the lightening connector for free. That's what I did. Super easy and got it in a bout two weeks.
