• Yes it lays completely flat out of the box. They did this by making the mouse pad a little thinner than normal ones. That isn't a bad thing. In my opinion it's the best mouse pad on the market and I have used TONS of them.

• The edges curved a little when I first starting using it but now it lays flat, about a few days afterwards.
