Nobody has answered this in 6mos? lol. I just set mine up, the internal (fan) runs continuously when power is on that i have seen thus far. Switch on the provided power bar will turn it off when want. Yes, can notice the heat expand/contract the shell/cover. Ours is sitting in direct sun for a good part of the day but won't have the TV on during this time typically. Could hook up some kind of thermal switch i assume.
