Digital version is a download, standard is a cartridge that is inserted into your system. This answer is 6 months late I'm sure, but here you go.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.So the smb edition will be downloaded (digital code) onto only ONE switch. If you have multiple switches then they would have to lay with the one that has it downloaded.(it’s not transferable). The standard edition is the physical game - they could still play together if they wanted to. But standard will allow them to remove game and have someone else play the game and then they play something else
