Pihrana plant gets released i believe in febuary 2019. Check your nintendo account inbox for a direct email after you register the game on your switch. I got the physical game on release date and still dont gave the plant yet but did get an email about the realease coming soon Hope this helps

Please try again later.In order to get the pirahna plant, you must register Nintendo (if you haven't done it so) and let Nintendo know you have made the purchase for the game in the Nintendo eshop. It is similar in getting bonus coins for every Nintendo game you purchase. Choose registration option in that menu. Shortly after you pick up the game (usually within a week or two), you should get an Email from Nintendo with an access code to redeem in the Nintendo eShop to unlock Piranha Plant. Granted, you will not be able to play as PP until the character actually releases, but you won't have to buy the character as separate DLC.
