Hi Dave. The support of up to 4TB means that the DVR is capable of working with hard drives up to 4TB capacity in the event that you wished to swap the included 1TB hard drive for something larger yourself. 1TB is still a very large size though and would give you a few week’s worth of recordings if you recorded 24/7 from all cameras. We would however recommend using motion-based recording instead, whereby the 1TB will take many months (6-12mths) to fill up. -SD, Swann Team
