Hello Cyndi. Thank you for your question. The Active Response Personal Safety Alarm pairs with the Swann Security app on your phone via Bluetooth, to activate remote monitoring and to receive phone notifications. However, you can use this as a stand alone product by just using the sound alarm feature but keep in mind that without pairing to the app you will not receive notifications. LV - Swann Team
