Maybe placing it sideways in a laptop holder that has open space below for the air vent might be a good idea,

Hi Nat. Yes, it is ok to store the DVR sideways, however we recommend trying to keep the vents on both sides clear so that cooler air can circulate inside the case to keep the electronics cooler. Hope this helps. -SD, Swann Team
