No you don't it's considered a bicycle I went to the DMV the other day when I had first got it and I let them know that it only went 20 mph as far as speed goes but I know distance wise it can go 38 miles or so with one charge but yeah you don't need anything you can register it on the website for the company though remember write down your VIN number which is located in the front lower part area by ur feet you can see like a little panel that's very important just in case anybody steals it you have your VIN number for sure
