“If I bought the switch at target can I bring it in to best buy to see if the can fix it? My son says when he is playing the console does not go the direction it wants, it moves on it's own without him touching it? Can geek squad fix it?”

Yes, geek squad can fix it. Unfortunately, joy con drift is common. You can also try to send it to Nintendo they used to do free joy con repairs.
