My understanding is that it is not suitable for a full frame camera

A good resource for answers about the lens is on the Best Buy site / specific camera product page. There is a feature to chat online with a customer rep who will answer or research you questions. If they don't have the answers immediately, they will research and get back to you. This was very helpful for me while I was considering this lens.

Yes it is. It's EF (full frame) and EF-S (cropped) compatible
