“Is this compatible with nikon d40? Will the auto focus function work? I bought another lens and ended up returning because although it said it was compatible the auto focus wasnt.”

im not sure. this lens is for crop senser (DX). cameras and i think yours is a full frame. i know a lot of Nikon lenses are cross conpatable but im not sure about this one.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No New lenses are not compatible with older cameras. I had to upgrade and buy all new lenses for my D 3400. My D50 wouldn’t work with the new lenses. The newer camera uses higher storage sd cards too. I highly recommend getting all new gear.
