Yes. I have tested an original iPad Air Wi-Fi (Apple Model A1474) in this case. The 2017 iPad 9.7" A1822 (wi-fi) and A1823 (wi-fi + cellular) also fit as we have this case on the A1823 model. The packaging states it will also fit an iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro 9.7".

Yes, it will fit the iPad air. Same dimensions as the newer released iPad. Volume control on case large enough window to accommodate either device.
