“How can this possibly fit iPad mini which is at least 3 mm longer than old iPad minis? Any mini case with set "corners" for the iPad won't fit.”

The corners are rubbery and stretch. Fits great!

Most cases I've seen like this, the corners are connected to elastic or some other "spring loaded" material which allows for a bit of size variance.
