“I bought this TV just today. I see white patches on the edges of the screen as shown in the pictures and they are visible when the screen gets dark or black. Is this normal?”

Yep. It’s an edge lit display and has a bit of light bleed. Most TVs in the price range have this issue. Have to buy a full array back light if you want to eliminate it. I think the step up 55s615 has a full array of its too distracting for you. I personally am used to it and hardly notice it anymore
