• Only the movie (2-discs) are BluRay. All the additional content is on DVD. This set sold by Best Buy in the US is region 1 and plays on US players

• I can't be definitive, as I haven't watched all the disks. I think that some are blu ray, and some are dvd. ie, the 6 bluray disks of the movie (2 each). Some of the extra disks are bluray and some are reg. dvd. The quality of the movies and the extras is great. Better than the original dvds and better than the bluray 3-disk set I had bought. If you are a LOTR fan, you will be happy with this purchase.
