    Peter Jackson’s Masterpiece Trilogy

Peter Jackson hit it out of the park and set up fans of Tolkien’s middle earth work to cheer for the big screen. The audio (score and sound effects), crisp picture and wonderfully compelling storylines weave textures through multiple themes. This 15 disc Deluxe edition blu ray box set is by far my favorite film trilogy adapted from literature. Enjoy in 5.1 or 7.1 surround, in multiple languages, closed captioning or in Director mode. There’s something to learn with each viewing.

The product is great which is why I’ll give it a five star rating; the service provided by Best Buy to get my item was terrible/ worst experience ever. Originally ordered for pick at the front desk for check out and my item which would be ready in an hour for pick and was not ready; Once I got there I waited 3 hours because they mentioned they were behind on orders and then they couldn’t find my order, so I walked into the store and picked the item off the shelf myself and witnessed one guy/ Best Buy Employee casually walking around the isle searching for movies taking his time all while other customers are waiting for their orders (no wonder they were so behind) It looks like the employees can’t work together since I saw the manager doing most of the work while the rest of the employees hardly tried to get orders in on time. Very, very slow workers; you’re better off going to the store and picking up the item off the shelf as well and you’ll be lucky to not experience terrible service by an employee there I recently went on November again to buy a printer; my bf asked an employee a question and he smirked and gave him the answer as if my boyfriend should have known the answer, obviously we asked a question because we are not aware and don’t know, the least the employee could do is kindly respond and not be so arrogant. By the way we never lost our cool, we were kind and patient in both situations. Hope this review helps in bettering customer service.

This is an awesome set, there is a ton of behind the scenes content. Just to note: the cases themselves are pretty fragile, so handle them carefully.

DON'T BUY IF YOU WANT COLLECTORS CASE!! I mainly bought this pack because the photos showed that it was an enclosed blu-ray collection, with gold trim and protective special case etc, (just look at the customer photos). Unfortunately this was not the case, it's a pretty standard slip case box for all of the blu-ray to slide in and out of in their respective film cases, but nothing special. I'm glad I got one of the last ones, because I'd had old DVD copies forever, but there is nothing really special about this. Inside each movie case was a lot of weird residue or something that I had to rub off as well. Not really happy with the box, hopefully there's nothing wrong with the films, haven't got around to watching them yet. I'd say the price should have been cheaper though I purchased it on sale, because it was advertised incorrectly and without the special edition awesome box I'd seen previously. A few of the discs have scratches as well, but IF the movies work - I'd say 4 stars is fair. ( for my photos I took out the blu-rays and the inserts to show how dirty the insides were)

Great content, but beware of packaging

Let me start with the good, the content is great. The disks were flawless and the image quality is everything you would hope for. You get all three extended edition films, plus several disks worth of bonus content, behind the scenes, documentaries, extended lore, everything that's been in previous versions of these films is here in crisp high definition. The exterior packaging is gorgeous, the cardboard case that holds all the plastic movie cases is very well made, with a magnetic latch and very pretty box art. !!!HOWEVER, BE WARNED!!! The three cases inside that hold the 15 disks are very poor quality. Each case holds five disks on a set of plastic inner leaves that hinge at the back of the case and allow it to open like a notebook. This plastic is EXTREMELY fragile. When I opened all three of my cases, they were filled with shards of broken plastic. Every single hinge in my set had shattered and the inner leaves were hanging at odd angles. Even the tabs that the disks press onto to hold them in place are fragile, and many of those had shattered as well, leaving the disks just sort of floating around loose. Luckily I did not see any scratches on my disks and to transfer the disk to different generic DVD holders I had laying around, and just display the empty cardboard case on my movie shelf. If you purchase this set, do so with the knowledge that you may very well have to abandon the packaging it comes with, pretty as some of it may be, in order to protect your disks from scratching.

The best versions of the Lord of the Rings.

This set contains all three extended cuts of The Lord of the Rings movies in glorious HD. With all the extras that come with set there is some serious watch time for LOTR fans. Personally I've preferred the extended cuts to these films compared to the theatrical versions. The extra material added in is quite extensive and does a good job of expanding the world of Middle Earth. I already had this set on DVD a long time ago, however those versions have rather poor picture quality, making the upgrade to HD well worth the price. These movies are a visual masterpiece and deserve to be seen on Bluray in all their HD glory. Of another note I have noticed in some previous reviews that the packaging could be quite fragile and problematic. As of 2019 this issue seems to have been addressed. Each movie set comes in it's own individual standard multi disc bluray case. No issues with the durability of these cases anymore. If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings then you owe it to yourself to watch these exquisite director cuts. You will never see Middle Earth the same way again. Highly Recommended.

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy in its Extended Edition Blu-ray is a masterpiece collection that is an absolute must-have for any fan of the series. The extended cuts provide a deeper and richer experience, adding context and depth to the already phenomenal theatrical releases. The picture quality on Blu-ray is stunning, bringing Middle-earth to life with incredible detail and vibrancy. The 15-disc set is packed with extras, offering hours of behind-the-scenes content that any enthusiast of the films will treasure. The care and dedication put into this collection are evident, making it not just a set of movies but a truly immersive journey into Tolkien's world. A splendid and captivating experience from start to finish.

This set is definitely worth it! The packaging is great: the box resembles a book, and unhinges to reveal the three DVD cases inside. Yes, each movie is divided into two parts, but that's hardly a serious criticism. The quality of the DVDs is outstanding--no problems experienced during the viewing whatsoever. There are scenes in this extended edition that were not in the theatrical version, and that's the reason--of course--that you want the extended versions. The additional scenes help to fill in story gaps in the theatrical version, and makes for a smoother-flowing story. The "backstory" of how the movies were made is also included on additional discs. If you are a Tolkien fan, you will truly appreciate this extended edition. My only other recommendation is to get the extended edition of "The Hobbit," which has even higher resolution video.

We all know the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but if you haven't seen the extended editions, you're missing out on Peter Jackson's true vision of this masterpiece. They put back in all the scene's that were cut to shorten the films which adds 20+ to 30+ minutes to each film. When you see some of the scenes that were cut, you'll question why something so good with so much important information was cut! It'll give you a whole new appreciation for these movies and you'll want to watch them multiple times again...

I enjoy watching the extended edition occasionally, but the theatrical cut is best in my mind. While there are some excellent scenes in the extended edition, many are fluff and derail the narrative of the films. And the extended runtime makes them a real feat of endurance to sit through compared to the theatrical versions.

LOTR Extended Blu-ray Trilogy most excellent

2012 LOTR Trilogy Extended Blu-ray with 15 discs is excellent on my Best Buy purchased 2011 Samsung 55" SmartTV 3D Blu-ray with high 240 Hertz refresh rate that is awesome to watch. It was retailed at $99.99 with a $60 discount, so it was $39.99 on November 19, 2012. I would not buy the 4K that is so inflated in price, plus you have to buy a 4K TV.

The Lord of the Rings movies have been some of my absolute favorites for years. The extended edition set is a must have, and the price for this set on Black Friday this year was incredible, I couldn't leave it behind. The box itself is beautiful as well; when you open the cover it has the map of Middle Earth, which I really love. I can't wait to watch these again.

Ive stood by and listened to nerd culture rant and rave about "ThE exTenDed EdiTiOn", and took no action. Then the lockdown happened and I found myself bored at home. I decided to finally see what the big deal was. Well, turns out the movies don't feel 4 hours long if you get immersed in the world, which for Tolkien, is basically the goal. Great to watch with your nerd family if you have one. If you don't, that's ok just browse r/lotrmemes for a bit and you'll get the feel of it. Do you have to be a dweeb to like this? NO. I'm not saying it doesnt help, but for real, this is an ADVENTURE story with action! and romance! I feel like Peter Falk trying to sell The Princess Bride to a young boy... look we all know these movies are the shizzle and that geeks make a lot of money anyways so who are we kidding. To sum up: BUY IT, DON'T YOU WANT TO LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE??

This box set is quite heavy as they crammed 5 discs into regular sized cases. The box itself feels like it will easily be worn out as you have to open it completely to get the cases out so I just left them out. However, they look absolutely amazing on a 4k TV even though I have upscaling and not true 4k. Looking forward to getting a sound bar/theater so it sounds as good as it looks. Picked it up for $60 it was a steal.

These extended editions of the LotR trilogy are beautiful and have excellent sound. The extra documentary making-of content is rich with amazing details and additional knowledge, especially the 3-part section about JRRT himself. Even though these are 'only' 1080 p, my new Sony blu-ray player and the TV combination did an amazing job of up-conversion - I never noticed and fuzzy spot in all 12 hours of binge-watching!

I've wanted this blu-ray collection for a long time. I had the extended versions on dvd but really wanted them on blu-ray. The picture quality is SO much better! And I've always enjoyed watching the extended versions. Great weekend movie binge set! I would definitely recommend this set. Especially when you can catch on sale like I did.

Any true LOTR fan will make this a part of their collection. From the extended versions of the films themselves to the endless hours of bonus content behind the making of the films to the innumerable depictions of LOTR art, you could hardly find a better way to immerse yourself in Tolkien's world apart from reading the books themselves.

Although the Blu-ray version is of better audio and video quality than the DVD version, it not so much better that I would call it a must-buy for LOTR fans. A lot of it has to do with the source material, and the cameras used at the time, I'm sure. On top of that, I get a little rear-speaker clipping in certain parts of Return of the King- the only Blu-ray movie I experience this in. Granted, a shrieking Nazgul is probably an audio-spectrum nightmare on some systems, but I still find it strange. I'm going to re-wire my rear speakers with fatter gauge cable and better coax cables for my Blu-ray player to reciever and see what happens.
