This only works with SATA hard drives. SATA I,II,and III. So any SATA drive will work. Not sure about the new M.2 sata drives, but i would assume those are also backwards compatible. I just purchased this from the store, but it only had the USB 3.0 connection for the PC. Online it says eSATA and USB 3.0. Same SKU and model number. So if you are looking for something with eSATA connection for the PC as well, it looks like the description is incorrect.
