“Does this cable step down from 12v to the voltage necessary for the cameras (such as 5 volts)? I just bought the X500 front and rear cams and want to make sure I'm not sending too much power to them.”

This will work for X500. It will not overpower the X500. And it evens says on BEDTBUY.COM.
