Hi Ed - When using Tile's to track people, it is very important to understand how the technology works. Tile's use bluetooth technology. When a Tile Mate is within bluetooth range (250 ft.) of your cell phone you can ring the Tile to help you find your misplaced item. However, when a Tile is outside of bluetooth range of your cell phone it relies on our Tile Network to provide updated locations of your Tile. Each time a Tile comes within bluetooth range of anyone else with the Tile app on their phone you will receive an updated location to where that Tile is in your Tile app on your phone. So if the Tile you are looking for is near a populated area you will likely receive many location updates. However, if the Tile is not near a populated area it might not get pings from other people with the Tile app on their phone and locations updates may not be as frequent. Knowing this, Tile does not recommend using a Tile as your sole way of tracking a person. However, attaching a Tile to your kids backpack or clothing is a good safety measure as a backup source. If you kids have a cell phone, the best option for real time tracking would be to use the Life360 app on your cell phone. Or you could also look into using a Jiobit if your kids do not have cell phones. I hope you find this answer helpful! Thank you
