• No. It operates itself automatically. Or it tries to at least. I wasn't impressed with this machine. I wish I had returned it

• Dear LO, Thank you for your question. You may hold the spray water trigger all the time when you are using the machine. Otherwise, the water will not come out. Hope my answer helps. Best, Tineco Customer Care
