You can't use a TiVo box from your cable provider with this TiVo mini. If you don't have a compatible retail TiVo (bought online or in a retail store), you can't use this product.

You must 1st buy a tivo dvr for 1 room then you can buy a tivo mini to use in a bedroom. but the tivo dvr has $14.99 monthly fee,but the mini does not have a monthly fee as it gets the channel to watch in the bedroom from the tivo dvr check the tivo.com website for pricing as lifetime service is expensive!! (I believe its around $500.00,I think they also have a yearly fee also.
