Hey Kevin! Thanks for your question. The Traffic information that is used with the VIA 1505TM is by radio waves. The device comes with an 'RDS-TMC' Receiver included, which you can tune to your local area's radio traffic network. This information is not as timely or accurate as TomTom's Live Traffic, which is available on some models via connection to smartphone. Models that use this include the GO 520 / 620 models.
