It depends on the source and you can stretch the 4:3 resolution size. If you have a cable box or satellite, it should give you the option to change as well. Some local HD channels will never fill the screen because the video was cut for 4:3 size. This TV does not have zoom in functions from what I recall but only the stretch 4:3 feature.
