• I know cox you still have to have a cable box. Some companies have where you can stream their services. I use youtube tv for tv and an antenna for over the air channels

• No cable box necessary. WiFi is absolutely necessary. Works very well with our Amazon Fire stick and Chromecast dongle. I haven't as yet attached an overtheair antenna for free local HD channels. I am waiting for delivery from Best buy of Google's latest Chromecast with a remote control. This is a first for this dongle. Good luck.
