“will this be compatible with my L775D? My laptop will not start up and stays on a black screen where i can only see and move the cursor. All indicates that is the hard drive. Can i buy this one and replace the one in my laptop with this one? Thanks!”

If you got that far your operating system has issues and not necessarily your hard drive (although that could be playing a part) This hard drive should work just fine for you, but you will need to reload your operating system.
