I'd conact HP for proper drive thickness requirements for your system. Like I've said before I've used these in Toshibas and Dells, with no issues. I'd be learer of using them in a ultrabook.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Not sure. I went to HP.COM and searched for "HP Pavilian 96". I couldn't find info on that particular model. Perhaps you can find the complete "Model #". Mine HP was the "HP Pavilian Elite e9180f". I spoke to a tech at Best Buy who stated this hard Drive WD Black WD 3003FZEX (3GB) model was better and I believe him. The old Hard Drive was a Seagate Barracuda (1000GB) Model ST 1000DM003" It worked over 6 years before crashing.
