• You turn the keyboard backlight on and off using the F5 Function key. You do not need to hold the FN key.

• Thanks for your question, Ann. I'm not sure I understand what you are asking but the model you referenced in your question (L55DT-C5238) does not feature a backlit keyboard. Please post an additional question if I'm not correctly answering you initial question.
