It depends upon the speed and cable length you need. Cat5 cables are rated to 100 Mbps. Cat5e are rated to over 1 Gbps. I am using a Cat5 cables but they are 6 ft long and my max speed is 150 Mbps.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would recommend any short one and just for quality functionality, a higher Cat level. Round, flat? Doesn't matter. Its only needed to connect from the router to device and device to modem. Now, the cable choice for what u hook up from the switch that runs to your tv, gaming device or whatever, should reflect the length needed for distance from the switch to your devices and the Cat strength that best suites your needs. AKA, streaming, gaming, etc.

The higher the CAT categories, the higher the transmission speed in Hz.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Since this is a Gigabit Ethernet switch, we would recommend using Cat5e or higher to ensure Gigabit link rates.
