Hi Jage, Yes, for cable Internet providers, a cable modem is needed to deliver Internet connectivity to the router via Ethernet cable. Depending on the features of your modem/router gateway, you may be able to configure it in "modem-only" mode, then connect it to the Archer BE9700 via Ethernet. Please consult with your Internet provider to inquire whether the gateway supports this type of configuration.
