• If you intend to connect the device to your router via Ethernet, we suggest configuring the extender in Access Point Mode to provide reliable, additional WiFi coverage in the vicinity of the installation location. Regards, TP-Link Support

• Yes, I ran it from the living room to the garage and had 5 lights on, which meant that had the strongest signal.
