“I have a Verizon modem in my office, downstairs in my house. The performance is OK. I have a separate modem upstairs in the kitchen (opposite end of the house). I want to improve that signal- how will this device know to distinguish between the two?”

That would depend on whether each existing modem/gateway has different SSIDs (network names). If they have the same network names, you will need to manually determine which signal is coming from which modem/gateway and select the one you want to extend. Regards, TP-Link Support
