“This product said it is universal, but when I was setting it up my router wasn't listed, it only showed TP-Link Archer products. I cannot find anywhere on the product description where it says this.”

I also had a Cox internet unlisted modem\router but I used iPhone setup app & it found & connected to the WiFi just fine....as long as the WiFi you have uses one of the normal accepted WiFi standards (802.11xx) it will work

However, for exclusive TP-Link OneMesh features and functionality, a TP-Link OneMesh router is required. However, OneMesh is not a prerequisite for general range extension.
