I would say yes to the 50ft away question. It worked perfectly for me when I was out on the road which was more than 50ft away

The RE605X can work in Access Point Mode while plugged into the router via Ethernet; however, it is not designed for outdoor use and is not weatherproof. It does not include an Ethernet cable. We recommend procuring a cable that is suitable for your specific installation needs.
