A:AnswerIf you lose power, its likely the internet provider has lost power as well. If they haven't and the modem is also connected to the UPS, then service and there router should remain online and the router will provide its normal transmission range. The extended range from the extender will not be available unit the device has its power restored and it reconnects to the router.

A:AnswerIt should be placed between where the router is and where you want to extend service. It needs to be in an open and unobstructed area with a strong signal from the router.
A:AnswerI think it'll work for you. I have my Modem and Router in one room at front of hallway to the bedrooms, I placed the Wi Fi extender in living room ( in center of house), and we use computers and iPad and TV in family room at far end of house ( completely opposite end of house from modem). The family room is separated by concrete block from rest of living area. Get good reception everywhere.
