Yes, the Deco E3 operates as a Mesh WiFi router for your home. You will need to connect your existing Internet source (i.e. cable modem) to the Deco via Ethernet cable during setup. Regards, TP-Link Support
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, this has a built in router and the two radios in it . (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz). The tower acts as the router. But for internet you need the combination of Router and Modem. This is obtained by the service provider in your area(Comcast, Verizon, Windstream).. and requires a monthly fee with that service provider.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You should not need to lease a modem from your internet provider. I believe, correct if I am wrong, that a law was passed several years ago which requires ISPs to.provide service for self purchased modems. Basically not forcing customers to rent the modem monthly. .....anyway......... I have a larger system of this and have been very happy with it. I'm actually looking for an extension for a detached garage. In a nutshell, if wanting to create a wireless network for transferring files this would work well, imho. However, if like most users, you'll need a modem (purchased or rented) specific to your ISP which will provide access to the internet and this system provides a wireless network for phones, tablets, tvs, roku devices...etc.
