• A:Answer It depends on the plan, as long as minutes are still available you should be able to text as long as you have data or minutes as texting takes one or the other. I did month to month for a couple months until my girlfriend got a phone with a carrier.

• A:Answer To purchase by the minutes I would buy the card in the first image. I personally would buy the card in the second image because it saves money and gives him internet service i.e. web service. I do want to warn you that whatever you decide to buy him you absolutely can not return or exchange the phone card after you have purchased it, however if you ever do make a mistake and purchase the wrong phone card no worries you can always resale it online at swopsmart for almost whatever you paid for it cause there will always be fees.
