There is nothing in the handbook but the minutes deducted for text messages will depend on the size of the message, pictures take more of course but not too bad. I usually purchase a 90 minute card every 3 months and have minutes left to carry over. Of course I don't use it as my primary phone, just when I'm out of the house. I swap pictures and text messages with my children and track down my husband when we get separated in the mall.
