• Yes you can. Even though the smartphone packages all say "for use only with smartphone plans," you can still use the basic tracfone card. The smartphone plans are a good value, but I still am using the basic card.

• Yes. That’s what I use for the kids. They do not use much of the minutes or texts. We So I buy the basic card and the 10 dollar data cards and it last them for 3 months.

• Just wanted to update that this still works in 2022. I just spent over an hour arguing with a tracfone rep. She told me that I could not connect a basic plan to my iphone x. After a very entertaining conversation I decided to gamble the $9.99 off of ebay for a plan to activate my phone so I could port the number and it worked.
