Yes this headset does have an adapter that fits specifically only for the Xbox controller, so no you do not have to buy the Xbox one stereo adapter

If you want to use it you just plug it into the headset and turn the mic switch on, on the cord. If you buy an extesion for the headset cord it has to be a four conductor extension cord because of the mic being available.
