Typically they try to find the studs and install the bolts in the studs as this is the best, but if they cannot, they have bolt mounting brackets. They will hold 100lbs but normally they work well in drywall but with plaster, esp the older horsehair plaster, bolt mounts tend to rip out of the walls very easy. I have run into this before. They don't hold bolts or weight very well. Would probably be best to find out how far apart your studs are apart(normally 16" apart) using a stud finder and make sure you get a tv mount that will allow for mounting into the stud directly and bypassing the plaster mounting which normally does not fare very well.
