Not defective it turns green when something is charging on it. No color when nothing is on the pad.

I believe the light only lights up when you have something on there charging. I got the one that was a rounded square rather than the full circle one shown in the picture. If you got that one then yes the green light only shows when you have something on the charger charging.

My green light goes out until I set my phone on the pad then the light turns on and the phone charges.
