• Yes, you can play without the app but it is nice to adjust the Speaker EQ, download playlists to the speaker, pair other UE speakers to it, and to use the adaptive EQ feature! One of my favorite features is being able to turn the speaker on/off from the app if it is within Bluetooth range!

• Absolutely! When first going through the pairing process it will prompt you to download the app or to ignore and continue. Once clicking ignore you will be able to stream music, videos, podcast, etc without using the app.
