“I have Uniden DC1...The screen goes dark in record mode, but I assume it is still recording. Does auto shutoff control the screen going blank? I would like the screen to stay on while driving. It is not a distraction for me if the screen stays on.”

With power on and not recording, hit Menu twice (left middle button) to get the Setup menu. Use arrow keys to go down to Screensaver, OK to confirm, arrows to select Off (aka Disabled), OK to confirm. Menu again to exit. Screen should now be on all the time. PS: Owner's Manual, page 17. :)
