Yes.Albeit not too far away. If you are asking this I assume you live in DC or Virginia which are the only two states that are illegal to own? or Canada?Maybe a commercial driver? If you live in Virginia this should be fine, detect range for the Spectre elite on this detector is between 40 feet and 5 feet depending on the unit you get, unfortunately you do not know which one you get . But compared to 1000 feet of other detectors I would say this is the most stealth arrowed detector in the market. In Canada is risky since they do confiscate detectors in some areas while in Virginia is just a 200 dollar ticket. For fully Spectre immune detectors try: Radenso Pro M (not sold here) Escort redline EX (also not sold here) The R3 (which is the non arrowed version of this) does fairly well against spectres too.(spectre is the Radar detector detector) Visit RDForum.org for more test results and info.

Well it says that it can't be detected by the radar detector detector spectre elite but they tested it and it showed where it can but you have to be up pretty close to the police for them to detect you I heard that the new valentine one gen2 is completly undectable and the new escort red line 360c.

Although I have not tried that yet it comes with that option. So the answer is yes.

like the uniden R3, the R7 is immune to RDDS
