• Yes it can. I am using a Denon 7.1 receiver, & that is how I have mine setup. You might need to adjust the delay though.

• I have a 5.1 Yamaha amp as well. I connected my rear speakers via the this kit connected directly to the rear speaker outputs on the receiver. I do not know if it will work if the rear speakers are connected to the Bose SubWoofer which is typically how the acoustimass works. I suppose you could give it a try and see, but I don't see any advantage in connecting them that way.
